Standard 9: Professional Commitment and Responsibility
The teacher is a reflective practitioner who demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and is continuously engaged in purposeful mastery of the art and science of teaching.
Reflection
To
show my professional commitment and responsibility, I have included in this standard
three artifacts. At first is my Medical Interpreter Certificate as my proof of
my search for professional growth. It also demonstrated my wiliness to learn
and become a better teacher, person and professional. The second artifact is the
NIH certificate; it demonstrates my competency to protect participants when
they are involved in human researches. Many of the lessons I gave during my
internship year had the purpose to become data for my action research. As a
result of my NIH training, I was prepared for the commitment to protect my
students as participants in my research.
The third artifact is my ticket for a Khan Academy workshop given in Boise, Idaho. Khan Academy is an institute that plans to provide teachers with tools and strategies to create more interactive lesson. During this workshop, I learned a lot about math and how to make it more fun for the student. Khan Academy had a lot of tools to be used in the classroom, such tools helped the students to better understand math, among other subjects like history, science and English. In their website they had activities for students to practice what they had learned in the classroom. They had videos that explain mathematical concepts; students can used those videos at home when doing homework. The point of Khan Academy is to team up with the teachers to engage students in learning. Conclusively, it could be said that I am a reflective practitioner that would take advantage of any opportunity I have to help me master the art and science of teaching.
