Standard 7: Instructional Planning Skills
The teacher plans and prepares instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, curriculum goals, and instructional strategies
Reflection The artifacts listed in this Standard Seven
belong here because they illustrate my preparation and organization on
instructional planning. The first artifact is the unit lesson I created for
fourth grade reading class. While in the first half of my internship year, I
was teaching in an elementary school in which I worked with fourth graders.
Along with my lead teacher back then, we prepared a unit that would instruct
students in the novel Pollyanna. This unit included the distribution of chapters
over time, activities and end of chapter tests.
The unit was organized to provide reasonable amount of time for students
to discuss the novel. This was the first unit I helped create and I felt proud
of it.
The second artifact is a template of lesson plans organizer that my third lead teacher used to organize her lessons of the week. This organizer is wonderful because provides a common structure that is clear and concise. I found it very useful and easy to use when I was creating lesson. It just helped me make my lesson plans structured, specific, and directed which saved me time. Moreover, I can guaranty that I would use the template in the future. I have made it my own and I am planning to keep it and share it. The instructional planning skills I have developed during my undergraduate and internship time have given me confidence that I could plan and prepared instruction integrating my students, their environment and my curriculum.
