Standard 4: Multiple Instructional Strategies
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to develop student learning.
Reflection
The following artifacts belong to Standard Four because they are examples of the diverse instructional strategies I have used during my undergraduate courses and my internship experience. The first one is a text set which was useful to present information about a topic in various literary forms. This diversification helped students find the literary form that would be more appealing to them. Students had the opportunity of finding something that would meet their need or to which they felt confident using. Providing students with more than one option to approach a topic helped them find the niche to which they belong: logic, musical or literary approach.
The Tree Diagram lesson was created to give the students a chance of exploring the artistic side of math. In this activity, students were asked to create a poster of a tree diagram as part of the Statistics Unit. Students found this approach of statistics fun and engaging. Moreover, when their knowledge was assessed, they referenced the activity and provided good knowledge of what they were talking about.
The third artifact is a character bag which was created during one of my undergraduate courses. It was something that had inspired me to experiment with different methods to approach math. When I created this project I noticed it would have various uses in math. There are many ways to use a character bag in math so that the students can relate more. The point is to understand the basic properties of something so simple as a character bag to be able to find other various ways that it would make learning experiences enjoyable for every student.
